The Feng Shui Guide to Picking the Perfect Wedding Gift
So, you’ve RSVPed to the big day, you’ve picked out your outfit, and you may have even planned your congratulatory toast. All that’s left is to pick out the perfect wedding gift…easier said than done! The internet is filled with gift guides bursting with shiny new gadgets and expensive china sets, but why not add a little manifestation magic to your choice of gift? Follow my Feng Shui tips below to pick out something special that will help the happy newlyweds to attract abundance, love, and a lifetime of joy together.
1/ Don’t Go With Something Overly Personal If You’re Not Close to the Couple
It might be the case that the wedding couple are your close, dear friends, but it might also be the case that you were invited by a family member you only see a few times a year, a friend of a friend, or you might even be attending as the plus one of another guest. If it’s the case that you’re not particularly close to either member of the wedding couple, it’s best to avoid a gift that’s overly personal. Stick to a safer option, like a lush and healthy houseplant (orchids are always a great addition to any home) or a beautiful bouquet of freshly cut flowers. Not only do plants and flowers always make for a well appreciated gift, but the wood energy they represent can attract fertility, longevity, and good luck for the happy couple.
Remember: the better you know the couple, the more personal the gift can be. Save anything overly personal, deeply meaningful, or homemade for couples you know really well. Jewelry, in particular, is something that’s best reserved for either the parents or grandparents to gift to the wedding couple.
2/ Do Pay Attention to Material
If you want the wedding couple to attract more abundance or increase money flow (perhaps they’re saving up for their first home together or they’re raising money for a once-in-a-lifetime destination honeymoon), gift them something in metal. If you want the wedding couple to attract more luck and positivity, gift them something in ceramic or crystal. Beautiful crystal cocktail glasses, heart-shaped rose quartz crystals to attract love and romance, or crystal vases to hold freshly cut flowers - all these things will help to attract good fortune whilst also leaving their home feeling luxurious.
3/ Don’t Gift A Painting or Art Piece
Even if you do know the couple well, gifting an art piece is just not worth the risk. A person’s taste in art is such a subjective thing that even if you think that one-of-a-kind abstract painting would make the perfect addition to their home, it doesn’t mean that they’re guaranteed to share that sentiment! If the wedding couple are art lovers, consider gifting them with a membership to their favorite art gallery instead.
4/ Do Still Make an Effort If You’re Gifting Money
Money can be a very generous gift, but it also does have the risk of coming off a little thoughtless. In order to demonstrate that you’ve put careful thought and intention into your gift, make sure you place the money (be it in the form of cash, a gift card, or a cheque) inside a beautiful card and write a personal, heartfelt message to the couple. Since gold is the diamond quantum color for abundance, pick out a card with some gold colors featured on it, or place it in a gold-colored envelope. It’s also a good idea to give the wedding couple a houseplant or a bouquet of flowers alongside the card as the wood energy will enhance the abundant energy of the money. In terms of what amount to give, a good rule of thumb is to give more than what it cost them to pay for your plate at the reception dinner (including any plus ones you brought along).
5/ Do Consider Gifting an Experience
A very popular gifting trend is to gift the wedding couple an experience, for example a spa getaway, a trip to a vineyard, or even a couple’s bungee jump! This can make for a wonderfully memorable bonding experience for the couple, but just make sure that it’s something they’ll both enjoy. It’s worthwhile having a conversation beforehand to double-check their preferences, even if you have to be a little sneaky about it so as not to give the surprise away!
6/ And Most Importantly, Don’t Forget the Gift Receipt!
In order to avoid cluttering up the newlywed’s home (we all know that clutter is a big Feng Shui no-no when it comes to keeping the energy flow positive and abundant!), it’s important that you gift them something that they’ll love and use. However, even with the best intentions, sometimes your choice of gift isn’t quite to the wedding couple’s taste. It’s always best to get a gift receipt, and don’t be offended if they ask for it.
