How to Use Feng Shui to Honor and Remember Your Ancestors
No matter what your family tree looks like, taking time to remember your ancestors is a wonderful way to show that you honor those who came before you. Not only does it help you to reconnect with your roots and strengthen your sense of identity, valuing your ancestor’s unique history can help bring you closer to your immediate family members.
If you’re looking to strengthen your family relationships, here are some beautiful Feng Shui tips to boost your relationship and health activations.
1/ Display Photos in Your Living Room
You can display photos of your ancestors and extended family along with any treasured family heirlooms in your living room as a way to manifest a closer bond with your immediate family members. It will show the Universe that you respect your family bonds, and it also acts as a sweet talking point with your children as you can reminisce and share stories of family members who have since passed on.
As a rule of thumb, here are the best directions to display certain types of family photos:
Display photos of children with their mother or grandmother in the Southwest.
Display photos of children with their father or grandfather in the Northwest.
Display photos of your children or grandchildren in the West.
Display photos of your ancestors or elder relatives in the East.
Display photos of you with your romantic partner in your Relationship Direction.
2/ Use Your Family Tree to Attract Good Health
The general direction in your home for attracting good health for your family is the East, so you can activate this area by displaying a copy of your family tree and photos of any relatives who lived long, healthy lives. This will show your gratitude for your ancestors’ health and vitality, and help to manifest the same for yourself.
Since wood is the element associated with health, an effective and unique Feng Shui activation would be to display any lush, round-leafed plants that have been given to you by a relative in this area too.
3/ Know Where to Properly Display Ashes
If you have an urn containing the ashes of a loved one in your home, it can be tough to know where to place them in a way that honors their memory but also doesn’t sacrifice the positive energy flow of your home.
As a rule, if you have a Personal Energy Number of 1, 3, 4, or 9, display it in the West area of your home, or in the North area of your home if you have a Personal Energy Number of 2, 5, 6, 7, or 8. The reason behind this is simple: Personal Energy Numbers 1, 3, 4, and 9 have no Personal Directions located in the West; whilst Personal Energy Numbers 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8 have no Personal Directions located in the North.
It’s also worth noting that the West is associated with the sunset and the North is associated with wintertime, making both powerful directions in which to honor a loved one who has passed on. If the North or West area of your home is where your bedroom or home office is located, place the urn in the North or West area of your living room instead.
4/ Where to Avoid Displaying Family Photos
According to Feng Shui, there are a number of areas in the home to avoid displaying family photos. First is the bedroom. The main purpose of the bedroom is for rest and romance, so having photos of family members mightn’t be the thing to put you in that loving state of mind! Keep any photos here limited to ones of you and your partner so as not to put a dampener on your passion.
Next is the dining room, which is an area dedicated to eating, drinking, and celebrating time spent with your family and friends. It’s a space where you come together to celebrate what it means to be alive, so it’s best to avoid dining amongst the dead.
Similarly, avoid displaying any family photos in the kitchen. Since the room deals with a lot of conflicting water and fire energy, this can lead to turbulent relationships and arguments within the family.
Lastly is the bathroom. With all its connotation of uncleanliness, displaying family photos here doesn’t exactly send out the right message to the Universe!
