How to Use Feng Shui to Beat the Winter Blues
Even in my sun-filled home of Los Angeles, it’s clear that winter is on its way! Whether winter for you means snow blizzards and sub-zero temperatures or just a crisp chill in the air, there are plenty of things we can do to keep the energy flow in our homes warm and cozy. Below are my favorite Feng Shui hacks to help beat the Winter blues, no matter how chilly it may be outside.
1/ Keep that Flow Fresh
One of the quickest and easiest ways to kickstart the energy flow in your house is to open the windows and let in the fresh air, but this mightn’t be so practical when the temperature starts to dip to single digits! To avoid a stagnant energy flow caused by a lack of incoming fresh air, burn pine-scented candles or set out pine-scented reed diffusers to create the illusion of fresh air. You can also run the taps in your kitchen or bathroom to help boost the energy flow, just make sure to only do this for a minute or so at a time so as not to waste water.
2/ Create A Warm Soundscape
With the windows shut, it’s harder to hear the outside sounds of nature. Birds chirping, the leaves of the trees rustling, and perhaps even the sounds of woodland animals calling to each other - all these sounds help to create harmony and balance within our homes by bringing the energy of the outdoors in. During the colder months, you can recreate this by playing birdsong or nature soundscapes through your speakers. Similarly, you can play any music that creates a warm and cozy atmosphere, like soft jazz, classical music, or even Christmas music.
3/ Burn a Scented Candle, or Two
Scented candles are a great way to lift the mood of your home, and to keep these smelling fresh even with the windows shut. You can either opt for a fresh citrus scent to perk up your mood, keep you focused, and remind you of the warmer, sunnier months, or you can lean into the cozy spicy scents of the season with cinnamon, ginger, and mixed spices.
4/ Make Sure Your Front Door Is Well Lit
With the days getting shorter, you may find that it’s already pitch-black by the time you get home from work! To help keep things light, bright, and cheery, install some battery-operated or solar powered lights around the front door of your home. Not only will this make your house feel warm and inviting, but it means that the positive, abundance-attracting flow of energy will still be able to find your front door. Remember, in Feng Shui the front door is known as “the Mouth of chi”, so it’s an important space to keep well-illuminated. How will good fortune be able to find you if it can’t see your front door in the dark, so keeping it well-lit will be your key to manifesting wonderful things this winter!
