Giving Thanks: How to Incorporate Gratitude In Your Daily Routine
It might still be too early yet to start prepping the Thanksgiving turkey or pondering over which stuffing recipe you want to use to dazzle at the dining table, but it’s never too early to start giving thanks for all the blessings in your life. Gratitude isn’t just for Thanksgiving and if you make the effort to practice gratitude each and every day, you’ll be amazed at how much brighter your life will be! It doesn’t have to stop with your mindset either; there are many wonderful ways to activate your home with Feng Shui in order to better express and receive gratitude from your family and loved ones, and here are just a few of my favorites.
1/ Keep it Clean
Keeping your house organized and decluttered is a wonderful way to express gratitude. Think about it: when we cherish something, we want to keep it in the best possible condition we can. We want to show that we value it too much to let it get messy, broken, or dirty. By treating your home like a sanctuary, you’re showing that you’re thankful for your environment and the energy flow within it. Give your home a thorough cleaning, from top to bottom, and pay extra attention to the windows. With the days getting shorter, having clean and grime-free windows means that whatever sunlight is available is making its way into your home!
Turn your attention to your kitchen too, since keeping this area fresh and clean will help show your gratitude for the food in your fridge and the warm, nourishing meals you share with your family. Take everything out of your fridge and clean the inside with soapy water, throw away anything out of date, and reorganize anything in your pantry.
Once you’ve finished, set out a bouquet of freshly cut flowers or a lush new orchid to add a touch of beauty to your living space.
2/ Add a Touch of Orange
The Diamond Quantum Color for celebration is orange, so show the Universe that you have a home worth celebrating by adding touches of this color to your decor. Put out a bowl of oranges as a centerpiece on your dining table to attract joy and abundance (Bonus Tip: hang up a mirror over the dining table so that this bowl is reflected in it - this will help to “double” your abundance!). Add some soft orange pillows to your couch to attract joy and gratitude to your family when you come to sit together.
3/ Update Your Family Photos
According to Feng Shui, if you only display old photos of you and your family, such as photos of your children from when they were toddlers or holiday photos from decades ago, you run the risk of “freezing” these relationships and keeping them stuck in the past. As part of your gratitude activations, replace them with newer photos that have been taken within the last twelve months. It’ll show that you’re thankful for the relationship you have with your family now and that you’re not stuck romanticizing about the past.
3/ Bake Some Fresh Cookies
It’s long been an open secret that real estate agents will often bake cookies in the homes that they’re trying to sell, but it isn’t the cookies themselves that are the prize - it’s the smell that they make when they’re baking! There’s no quicker way to make your home feel cozy and warm than the scent of something sweet in the oven, and there are plenty of cookie-scented candles on the market that do the trick too if you don’t fancy yourself as a baker. Either way, that smell will help to spread the sweet aroma of gratitude throughout your home.
4/ Declutter and Donate
Space clearing is an important process in Feng Shui since it allows us to pass on the things that no longer serve us and open up the space for new, better gifts to enter into your life. Sort through your bookcases, closets, cupboards, and drawers and ask yourself “Will I use this in the next six months?”. If it’s a no, strongly consider either getting rid of it or donating it.
This is definitely something to get the whole family involved in, especially if you have children. Have them go through their clothes, stuffed animal and toy collections, puzzles, shoes, and books and see if there’s anything they no longer use that they can donate to a local charity. This is the time of year when those in need may be particularly struggling so what better way to show gratitude than by helping to spread some goodwill to your community.
