'Tis the Season to Give! How to Create Abundance by Giving Back This Holiday Season
The holiday season is filled with so many wonderful things: delicious home-cooked meals and sweet treats, jewel-colored tree decorations and twinkling lights, and quality time with our loved ones. Above all though, one of my favorite things about this time of year is the many opportunities we have to give back to those around us. Whether it’s swapping heartfelt messages in Christmas cards, exchanging thoughtful gifts, or simply sharing a smile with a stranger on the street, the act of giving back is actually a powerful step towards creating more abundance in your own life.
When you help to spread love, joy, and kindness around you, you are helping to raise your vibrational field. The higher your vibrational field, the more positive your energy flow and the more abundance you’ll attract. So, if you’re looking to kickstart that flow of kindness this season, here are my favorite ways to spread some festive cheer.
1/ Add An Act of Kindness to Your To-Do List
There are no shortages of ways to give back to those around you: give a stranger a heartfelt compliment. Help a neighbor with their groceries, or offer to go to the store for them if they’re not able to. Volunteer at a local charity or at a local soup kitchen. Practice intentional speech by saying what you mean and by meaning what you say. Try to listen more than you talk. See if you can donate food or supplies to a nearby animal shelter. Do a favor for a friend, even if it means going out of your way to do so. Ensure that your home is as warm and welcoming for visitors as possible. Call your parents or distant family members to reminisce about festive seasons from years gone by. Visit a nursing home and spread some joy to the residents there. Donate to a local food bank. Help someone with their bags. Compliment a neighbor on their decorations. Be extra kind and patient to those working in the service industry at this time of year. Give your time, love, and attention freely and gladly. Do something to put a smile on the face of your loved ones.
This season, challenge yourself to perform one act of kindness each and every day, and watch as it inspires others around you to do the same!
2/ Practice Gratitude
Gratitude is like a muscle and the more we exercise it, the stronger and more powerful it gets. Set aside even just five minutes a day to list a handful of things that you’re grateful for at that moment in time. From trying out a delicious new recipe to sharing a joke with a friend, even the small moments that fill our day add up to something we can be truly grateful for.
In terms of manifestation, the more we stop to look for the positive things in our lives, the more positive things we notice. You’ll find that you attract abundance easier and far more effortlessly when you learn to actually stop and notice it!
Similarly, if there are people in your life that have helped you or shown you kindness this year, think of ways in which you can let them know how much you appreciate them. Whether it’s a handwritten note, a bunch of flowers, or some other thoughtful token of gratitude, show the Universe how much you appreciate all the blessings it's shown you by stopping to say “Thank you”.
3/ Let Go of Old Grudges
The festive season is the perfect time to let go of any grudges over resentment that may have built up over the past year. Release all that negativity from your heart with a forgiveness letter - check out chapter 5 of “Your Home Is a Vision Board” if you need a refresher on how to write one!
When you clear through those unresolved arguments, disputes, and disagreements, you’re helping to energetically “wipe the slate clean” which in turn gives you a fresh new surface to manifest from. With forgiveness, you can give yourself permission to let bygones be bygones and keep your eyes set solely on the future.
4/ Spread Some Smiles With Space Clearing
In the run up to the holiday season, it’s a good idea to have everyone in the household go through their things and make a pile of items (anything from old toys, winter clothes, shoes, or books) that they no longer want. If the items are broken and beyond repair, dispose of them but if the items are still in good condition, donate them to a local charity or shelter. That way, not only are you creating more space, you’re also passing on some festive joy to someone in need.
In addition, there are a number of charitable programs that run each December that involve donating newly-bought gifts for children and families in need. Check in with local charities to see if they have a list of requested items and then unleash your inner Santa Claus with a little shopping!
